Getting Ready For My Future

Choosing University of Bridgeport wasn’t so much of a hard decision for me; it came very easy. To be honest UB wasn’t my number one chose, but it was one of my top colleges to choose from. Since I was in 8th grade I wanted to go to University of Central Florida. However, in turn of events my application had got lost in the mail, and by that time the deadline for the UCF application rolled around.

So University of Bridgeport was my second choice because it was in another state an they gave me the most scholarship money. Before I visited the school, I took a look on their school website. It looks gorgeous, so I had to take a look at the campus myself. Seaside was so cue and quaint because I’m from the city so I’m not used to seeing a beach just from looking out my window.

This is a pretty small university, so the professor to student ratio is about 15 to 1, which is great. I came from a small high school so being in another small school was not a big adjustment at all. My mother always says everything happens for a reason, so maybe I would’ve been overwhelmed by the huge campus UCF has.

The diversity on this campus is another thing that attracted me to it. Back home I have friends from different walks of life and backgrounds. I have met Middle Eastern friends here, which I never really had. They ones that I do have back home are very Americanized, but at UB they came straight from their native country.

We all teach each other our customs. For example, I have done hookah a couple times before with friends form back home, but when I met my Middle Eastern friends they took me to an authentic hookah place that they go to almost every night. At this place they play Arabian music and they belly dance. I actually learned how to belly dance and downloaded some of their songs.

I major in Mass Communications/Journalism here at UB. I hope to become an editor of my own magazine one-day. Whether it’s a print or online magazine, right I’m not too sure. I’m still trying to figure out the little kinks.

I have met great, life long friends here. They have been genuine to me and vice versa. Some classes I took opened up my eyes to what I really want to accomplish in life. Also when you find those great friends, you can have those great college nights with them. It’s not just all work no play. If you ever do decide to join my soon to be alma mater then I hop you enjoy your college experience just as much as I’m enjoying mine!
